All in a Golden Afternoon

Flowers have an expression of countenance as much as men or animals. Some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others again are plain, honest and upright, like the broad-faced sunflower and the hollyhock.
~Henry Ward Beecher, Star Papers: A Discourse of Flowers

Snapdragons are such cheerful flowers.  I am so delighted to have freshly cut flowers that grew in my very own AeroGardens. These remind me of the song All in a Golden Afternoon from Alice in Wonderland.

Little bread-and-butterflies kiss the tulips
And the sun is like a toy balloon
There are get-up-in-the-morning glories
In the golden afternoon

There are dizzy daffodils on the hillside
Strings of violets are all in tune
Tiger lilies love the dandelions
In the golden afternoon

There are dog and cat-erpillars and a copper centipede
Where the lazy daisies love the very peaceful life
They lead...

You can learn a lot of things from the flowers
For especially in the month of June
There's a wealth of happiness and romance
All in the golden afternoon

All in the golden afternoon, the golden afternoon

You can learn a lot of things from the flowers
For especially in the month of June
There's a wealth of happiness and romance
All in the golden afternoon

  4. So sweet! I love so many flowers. That's one reason why I love perennials. You enjoy one until it fades and another beauty takes it's place. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

We all have our “good old days” tucked away inside our hearts, and we return to them in dreams like cats to favorite armchairs. ~ B. Carter
