The Wonder of the Woods

I love looking at the little touches of wonder in the woods.  Everywhere I look, there is something new.

I find mushrooms quite fascinating.  I know ~ Do Not Eat them! (although the strange man down the street showed me some mushrooms in his yard and said they were edible...  I was thinking no thanks).  I do enjoy looking at them.

I was remarking to my husband just last week that I hadn't seen very many mushrooms this year.  And then it rained a lot and BOOM!! Mushrooms!!

In my photograph above, I am especially fond of the big mushroom in the front.  It almost looks like a scone or possibly a meringue.  I imagine the fairies in the gardens are as delighted as I am.

Have you mushrooms in your garden, field, meadow, or woods?

  1. Your woods sound lovely, Gina. I too, have some mushrooms in my garden. I am certain little fairies shelter under their pretty caps.

    1. Kim, the fairies would have sheltered there today. Lots of rain and a tornado watch. All is well now.

  2. We have seen lots of mushrooms here as well due to all the rain we have received. Of course the Morel mushroom is our favorite because it is one of the names in my husband's family line through his mama. My daughter is Amelia Morel. She hated it growing up because no one said it right....but in the south we like our family names.

    1. Arlene, I'm not sure how to pronounce it. More-l? or Moral? I'm guessing the former??

  3. Yes, we have many different kinds. Morels are the best! We have certain patches that we hunt for Morels in the spring. Our oldest son found 245 last month. He had a fish and moral fry for us all!

I know how you feel about the news of Manchester. We need to pray. It's just horrible.

    1. Anne, I wouldn't dare eat the ones I find in the woods. I'd for certain choose the poisonous ones.... Praying with you.

  4. We have had the mushrooms in our yard in the past but surprisingly with all the rain we still haven't had any, although the path we walk on at a local park does have some

    1. Connie, aren't they interesting? Last year, I saw some orange polka dot ones that reminded me of Mario!

  5. We have not seen many mushrooms here this year. I do love to see them though. I, like you, think the Fairies must find them to be quite enchanting! xo

    1. Dianna, I can picture fairies sitting on the smaller ones and using the taller ones for a table. Perhaps a magical tea party?
