Berry Berry Delicious!

Last night, we went to dinner at our good friends' house.  We met M & S at church and immediately bonded as we are all from California.  They moved to NC about six months ago. They love it here. North Carolina is truly home.

Dinner was delicious.  Dessert was heavenly!  S made a strawberry shortcake with a very special whipped cream.  She asked me to guess what the secret ingredient was.  After tasting it, I guessed nutmeg or possibly cloves. I was wrong. The whipped cream was flavored with basil.  Yes, basil!!

She explained how she simmered the heavy cream with leaves of basil the cream, removed the basil, strained the cream, and then refrigerated the basil cream until she whipped it. Oh my gosh ~ it was so delicious!  I absolutely loved it as did my husband.

Have you ever tasted whipped cream with basil?

  1. Vanilla or sugar, or both but never basil. Sounds interesting.

    1. Diana, it was. I certainly guessed wrong! I'm pretty sure she didn't add vanilla - just confectioners sugar, heavy cream, and the basil.

  2. Hi Gina!

That sounds amazing! I'm not very adventurous when it comes to cooking...I love to cook, but it's pretty ordinary. Basil whipped cream sounds heavenly!! Lucky you!!

  3. Oh wow that sure sounds different, don't know what I would think about that, when we went out to a restaurant in St. Louis they had jalapeno's in the whip cream, oh my was that strange and it was over a brownie that was cooked with bacon, needless to say hubby and I were glad we only bought one because we didn't care for it too much and my hubby loves to try weird and different combo's of things.

    1. Yikes, Connie! I like bacon alone or on sandwiches. Not thrilled with it in baked goods. Love jalapeƱos but in whipped cream - not sure....

  4. I have two big plants of basil in my garden. Made a wonderful caprese appetizer for dinner tonight, but never would have thought to do this. I've got to try it! Thanks for sharing it with us.
