A Surprise From the Vet and Celebrating National Ice Cream Sundae Day

Winston and Lilah are celebrating National Chew on Sticks Day/Month/Year.  They are so cute together.  Sometimes they each chew on the same stick - one on one end and the other on the other end of the stick.  Thankfully, there is no shortage of sticks.

This afternoon, Winston and I visited the vet.  Sadly, he cried the entire way to the vet's office (about 20 minutes).  He did not cry at all on the way home.

Good news - Winston is in very good health.  The surprise was that he is not as old as the animal shelter said he is.  I wonder if the person who dropped him, his mother, and siblings off at the shelter was not completely honest about their ages.  The shelter told us that Winston was 13 weeks old.  Two different vets at the office examined him and he is between 8-10 weeks old. They could tell by checking his baby teeth.

The additional surprise was that he is going to be much bigger than we thought.  He weighed in today at 13.9 lbs.  After consulting the growth chart graph, he most likely will be over 80 lbs and closer to 90+ lbs when he is older.  He is such a sweet pea and will most certainly, in time,  go to puppy kindergarten.

Last night started off well.  Winston started off sleeping in the bathroom in a fenced puppy pen.  After about 20 minutes, Lilah went in and started whining which made Winston whine.  I buckled.  Winston snuggled right down in our bed along with Lilah.  Apart from some little snores, he didn't make a peep.  Lilah couldn't settle down.  She was on top of the blanket then under the blanket then on top again.  At 2 am, I took them both outside to use the facilities.  They did what needed to be done and then wanted to play. Oh bother.  It took fifteen minutes or so to stop them from running around and come back inside.  Back to bed and up at 6 am.

I did get some sleep and thankfully took a nap this afternoon.

Hooray!  Hooray!  It is National Ice Cream Sundae Day!  I had zero ice cream in the house until I went to the market this morning.  And it was on sale!  Hooray!

If you know me, you know that I love a bargain!  Ben & Jerry's ice cream is on sale this week and there is a special incentive if you spend $15 on certain ice creams then you will receive $5 back.  I bought three Ben & Jerry's pints and 3 boxes of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Bars/slices.  Only one of the boxes of bars is pictures as the others are in the garage freezer.  The bars/slices are on sale 3 for $9 and the pints are on sale for $2.97 each.  I had three $2 off coupons to use on the bars/slices and I had three $1 off coupons to use on the pints.  I spent $8.91 and then received $5 back.

I enjoyed a nice Cherry Garcia sundae with a cup of coffee after dinner.  A perfect way to celebrate National Ice Cream Sundae Day!

Did you enjoy a scoop or two?

  1. I didn't know about it being National Ice Cream Day. I don't think it's recognized here in Canada. Ice cream is actually not one of my favourite things to treat myself with, although I do enjoy a scoop of raspberry sherbet, or some dark chocolate ice cream.

    1. Lorrie, my husband is the ice cream fanatic in our family. I like a little here and there. That raspberry sherbet does sound good though!

  2. Hi Gina!

Winston is adorable! I'm so glad that Lilah has a friend! Our dog is large, a Black Lab. He weighs in at about 112, and he's not very overweight... ;0) They do take up a lot of space, but they are so worth it.

I have been having some health issues, and I'm not sure ice cream is the best thing for me right now, but that doesn't stop me from having a taste. I love Cherry Garcia, and for some reason it's hard to find here! Enjoy your week-end!!

    Hugs and Love,

    1. Barb, that is a big lab! I am glad that puppies grow slowly!

I am sorry that you are having some health issues. I hope that they are resolved soon. xx

  3. Hello Gina, Thank you for visiting me today and leaving your beautiful comments. For some reason you dropped off my radar. Your Winston is a sweet fellow. How lovely he and your pretty Lilah are such sweet companions. You Americans really do have the best celebratory days. I rather love the sound of National Ice Cream Sundae day!

    1. Hi Kim! I have been on a blogging break but it feels good to be back! They are sweet companions but oh my do they like to wrestle! I know they are just having fun. I hope you enjoy some ice cream regardless!

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
