The Bookcases Have Arrived!

Happy Days!

The bookcases have arrived safe and sound and they are the right ones!!!!

It took a little while for the delivery men to put them together. There are three separate pieces and they had to remove the top molding and end wall on one end to put on other end of middle piece. I'm not explaining that very well but all was done correctly.  The bookcase set is perfectly big (114 W x 95 H x 17 D).

My mister put all my Yankee Candles on the top shelf.  I have them arranged by seasons.  The first top shelf (left to right) has spring and summer scents.  The middle top shelf has autumn scents.  The right top shelf has winter scents.  Yes, I have a lot of Yankee Candles.  When they have a special sale, I stock up on them. ♥

Today, I started putting books on the shelves.  My mister has a huge bookcase in his office and is content to leave these shelves for me.  The far left shelves have gardening, favorite school books, and craft books.  The middle shelves have Bibles, devotionals, a few fiction books, and some favorite "nice" children's books.  "Nice" as in Nana will read them to the littles.  The shelves on the right have cookbooks, homemaking books, and some favorites of mine (Tasha Tudor and Beatrix Potter).

The lowest shelves have nothing on them yet.

These shelves will contain children' s book that they can look at by themselves if they like.  They are nice too but not special nice (if that makes sense).  These books are currently packed away and need to be unpacked.  LOTS of Golden Books and such.

Below the bottom shelves are drawers.  I've only filled one drawer so far with CDs and cassette tapes (yes, I still have some of those).

I am not completely done filling the shelves but I am happy with what I have accomplished today.

  1. Oh I love them! You'll have such fun filling them with books and pretty things! I love my bookcases and need to change them up a bit. I wanted to leave some shelves just to do seasonal vignettes but then I had too many books. I may need to weed some out! I'm so happy they came and look so pretty in your room!

    1. Me too, Diane! What a great idea to have a season vignette. Maybe I might shuffle things around to have a special shelf (toward the top so the littles aren't tempted!).

    1. It is, Marqueta! I love books (all paper really!) and am happy that I can group them together. I do have a few candles not put up high for now. If my mister isn't home, I can't reach them up there. :-)

  4. Very happy for you! The bookshelves are beautiful. I had to smile when I first spied the candles, then as I read down the post and saw that yep, those were indeed candle, I chuckled. I have a candle cupboard! Maybe you and I need a 12 step program for candles~~ LOL!

Have a lovely weekend, and enjoy fluffing your nest, and filling those beautiful bookshelves.

    1. Sandy, thanks. I've lost track of how many Little Golden Books I have. I have some from when I was little that are falling apart here and there but they are still precious.

  9. Oh so good that they arrived in good shape and that's great that they put them together too! Wow I thought I had a lot of candles, how wonderful to have them for every season. That is great that you will have the kids books on the bottom so they know they can come and check them out at anytime :)

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
