The Tale of New Furniture that Was and Wasn't

Today our new living room furniture arrived.  Some of it stayed and some of it went away.  It was sad.

I wish I'd taken a before photo.  We had a sage green loveseat and a different console/cabinet.  Now we have a sectional sofa, coffee table, end table, and new console/cabinet.  And a new TV.  We didn't have a TV in this room before today.

and another view

The sectional sofa is a soft charcoal gray.  I added the quilt (first picture) to make it my own and I plan on getting some sweet cushions.  The coffee table and end table are a deep coffee brown with a brown/grey/black marble top.  The console is a soft black color with pewter hardware.  The coffee table and end table have the same color pewter knobs.

What arrived and was sent back was a beautiful ash color very tall bookcase.  Well, three bookcases that fit together. It has pewter hardware. We ordered two end bookcases and one center bookcase.  What arrived was two center pieces and one stand alone piece.  After speaking to the furniture store's customer service department, the delivery men took all three pieces away.  I felt badly for them as the furniture were very heavy. Oh bother.  Hopefully, the right bookcases will be delivered next week.  In the meantime, I have boxes of books everywhere.  It's quite messy here.

I hope to decorate this area after the bookcases arrive.  I don't usually have the tall taper candles on the fireplace hearth.  I added them but I think I'll take them away.  The pillar candles are flameless and on a timer.  They come on at dusk and turn off at dawn.

I love the colors of the new furniture.  I think if we didn't have all the windows (light), I would have gone with lighter colors but the grays work! I'll take pictures of the bookcases when they've arrived.

  1. I love the colors you chose. You'll be able to change the look for the seasons or your mood by adding accent pillows and different throws. I love the dark tables...very classy! Hugs!

Alas it is just on display to make us crazy people want to buy all the things.lol Some stitchers doe stitch for clients and you might find some finished pieces for sale on ETSY.

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
