Down To the River To Pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way!

O sisters let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O sisters let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the robe & crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O brothers let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
Come on brothers, let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O fathers let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O fathers let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the robe and crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O mothers let's go down
Come on down, don't you wanna go down?
Come on mothers, let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O sinners, let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O sinners, let's go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the robe and crown?
Good Lord show me the way

Alison Krauss

This is an aerial shot of the overflowing river near where we live.  (We are about a mile from the river.). This photograph was taken yesterday.  I'm not sure who's drone took the picture.

We were out and about for a little while this morning and it is so sad the number of trees down, parts of roofs that have blown off, and all the flooding.

I love Alison Krauss's song (lyrics above) and will post a YouTube link to the song if anyone isn't familiar with it.

  1. Hi Gina~

Wow! That's a lot of water, I hope it does not get as far as your neighborhood. It's just horrible, all that damage and lives torn apart...many prayers are sent to you and to the people in, Michael's path.

    I love that song!

    Hugs and Love,

    1. Barb, thankfully, there are no houses as far as I know in this video. We live wayyyy out in the country/woods.

  2. I hadn't heard that song before that I know of, I just love her voice, so pretty.
Wow the river is amazing how much it is overflowing, praying it soon starts to go back down. The Mississippi here has finally crested and we are told it should start going back down.

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
