Sandy to the Rescue - and Walmart Experiment

Happy Day!  With Sandy's help, I think I've remedied my Blogger stay sign in problems.  I was so frustrated with it not working and especially sad that I couldn't comment on my dear friends' blogs.  I will head over there right after posting this.

It has been another cold rainy day here. I did venture out to - gasp - Walmart! I very rarely go to Walmart as it is farther than my other grocery stores (next county). I am pleased to report that it wasn't as sketchy as it was last time I went. Last time, it had a really strong seedy theater smell to it. Yikes!  Today, no such smell. Maybe last time they had just cleaned it with a weird solution?

I made a special trip to Walmart to experiment with their Great Value brands.  I've been watching some really cute vloggers on YouTube that often shop at Walmart and they recommend the Great Value items.  I made a point to purchase a number of Great Value items.

Two Thumbs Up:

The Great Value Chicken Broth (salt free) - I am picky about chicken broth and prefer to make my own but today I really wanted to make chicken soup and this was the easiest option. I will purchase this again.

One Thumb Down:

The Great Value frozen apple pie - I purchased it on a whim as I thought it would be nice to have for dessert after the chicken soup. Um, it was just okay. The apples tasted like not great canned apples. The crust was better than I expected.  Homemade pie is best. I won't purchase this again.

I'll tell you what I think of the other Great Value items after I try them.

Do you shop at Walmart?
What do you think of their Great Value items?
Any favorites?

  1. My husband is a veteran and we live very close to the Air Force base, so we do most of our shopping at the commisary on base, but since the walmart is closer if we need to pick up just a couple more items, usually fresh fruit or vegetables, milk ect, then we run up there to get it, I am trying to think if we have tried many great value items, can't think of any right off hand. Glad to hear you had a better experience this time going.

    1. Connie, a commissary is awesome to shop at! I have had good experiences with Walmart milk. The stay fresh date is accurate!

  2. I got your blogs changed...glad you figured out your problem. Technology is always iffy for me. I do shop at Walmart about once a month as they have some things I cannot find at Publix where I prefer to shop. There is a new Publix about a mile from my house and I love it.

    1. Arlene, I love Publix. There is one in the next county a little farther than Walmart (about a 25 minute drive each way). Love their bakery stuff!

  3. I hope all of your blogging woes get fixed. I was so frustrated. I had gotten on the Apple helpline and looked for answers. I finally did the Mozilla download. I am looking at my blogs on Safari because I like the way it reads better, but if I need to make a comment I go to Mozilla and comment. I think Safari is aware of the blogger commenting problems so hopefully a update will come in the future.
I am not a Walmart shopper so much. The one in the neighboring town is so nice, but ours here is just so overcrowded that I just hate to go there. I have a wonderful Publix just down the road here from me. I have had health issues that were resolved with diet, so my Publix offers much of my dieting needs so I am a Publix girl.

    1. Sandy, I shop at Publix about twice a month. It's farther away than even Walmart but I do love their bakery items. Love their sourdough bread best!!

  4. I hope you have your blog the way you want and need it. It's supposed to be fun and not a pain all the time! lol I bought no salt chicken broth yesterday but I got Swanson's. It's what I've always used and I hated to switch. Hugs!

    1. Diane, I used to like Swanson's but for some reason, I then didn't. I am going to pick up more of the Great Value brand next time I head that way.

  6. I have been getting your comments too, many thanks! :) My Husband and I don't shop at walmart but did when we were with family last Christmas as we rented a camp (most affordable for us with the number of adults and kids) and we were able to find all we needed. :)

    1. Thank you for letting me know, Elizabeth. I was a bit confused at this Walmart as the layout was odd. The freezer section was mid-store. I'm used to it being more toward the back.

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
