Trader Joe's Wonderland

On Monday, my friend Bonnie and I went into the big city to have lunch and shop at Trader Joe's. We visited a few little shops before we ate our lunch at a new soup and salad restaurant.  I had a Cobb salad wrap that was very good and very filling.  I ate half for lunch and saved the other half for dinner.

Next, we went to Trader Joe's.  Now I think I had been to TJ once in my life years ago in New Jersey.  This was practically a new experience.

The store was very nice and clean.  It had a "market" sense to it.  I was like a kid in a candy store.  I didn't quite fill my cart up but maybe half way. There was a coffee/tea/juice tasting station.  I really liked the unfiltered apple juice and the spice herbal tea.  I bought both and though that I bet it would taste really good to heat up the apple juice and brew some of the spice tea with it!

I bought small bags of Gala apples and sweet potatoes.  I transgressed (just kidding) in the cookie aisle and bought some coffee & chocolate cookies and some pumpkin cranberry crackers.  I believe the only other things I bought were some organic chicken and some cottage cheese. Once home, I put the groceries away and cooked the chicken (we are putting Lilah Rose on a fresh food diet - another post!).

I don't know if I care to go back to Trader Joe's.  Though I really like the juice, tea, and produce, I did not like the cookies or crackers.  The cookies tasted so bitter (blech) and the crackers were pretty hard.  I haven't tried the cottage cheese yet.  Lilah Rose gave the chicken two paws up.

Do you shop at Trader Joe's and if so, what do you like to buy there?

  1. Hi Gina.
Oh, we love Trader Joe's! Our closest one was well over 100 miles away, until this summer, then a new location opened up and it is about 80 miles away...LOL!
Some of our favorite things to buy; The Vanilla Meringues, Garlic infused olive oil, Chicken sausage, and the lobster ravioli is delish.
Also the flowers are always pretty.

Have a happy day, and sounds like Lila Rose has a new diet and hoping that means that she will be feeling better :)

    1. Kerin, that is FAR! The new one isn't too much closer. LOL

I don't think I saw any of those items you mentioned. I think I'd like to try the lobster ravioli!

Lilah Rose is feeling better. :-)

  2. I visit TJ's a few times a year. This is what I like...nuts, cheese, orange juice, lemon or lavender dish soap, cherry cider, lemons/limes, flowers, tri color quinoa, olive oil, cookie butter, everything bagel seasoning, onion seasoning, pita bread, lavish flat bread (make a good crisp pizza crust) dijon mustard....Hope that helps. I travel a ways to get there so I can never use the freezer items. And of course, the chocolate peanut butter cups....the best.

  3. Hi dear Gina! First of all, thank you for your kind comment on my post about my beloved mom. I so appreciate you.
I do get to Trader Joe's every now and then, but it's not that close to me. I do enjoy sampling and trying new things from there.
    I hope you're having a wonderful week.

    1. Kitty, I didn't see any samples except the coffee/tea/cider. I wonder if they have more on the weekends? {{HUGS}} to you, sweet Kitty!

  4. Then there is me, LOL!!! Trader Joes is like MY store...I live in NJ near NYC and go to the one via PATH train on 6th ave in NYC. Have not tried the cookies or crackers. Their chocolate almonds with sea salt and turbinado sugar, super good. Belgian chocolate 1 lb bars I have picked up for friends who love this, their french milled soaps are lovely, drinking chocolate (Christmas time, comes in a tin), Their cranberry almond torte last year was super good, their spiced apple is good, their ten teas (Christmas), another cookie that I can't think of their name that is like Dutch windmill cookies are really good. Cleo likes their wet cat food! LOL! I get various nuts there for salads. Their Indian spiced marsala veggie burgers are a real hit and their French Vanilla ice cream is my fave! Also I like their chocolate chips!

    1. Elizabeth, I did live in NJ near NYC! We moved to NC about 4 years ago. I did visit the TJ in Paramus once. I think the one here is a little nicer. Well, I will just have to go again because I think I'd like to try all that you mentioned except maybe the veggie burgers............. :-)

  5. The apple juice combined with the tea does sound very good. Bummer you didn't care for the cookies or crackers. We have gone to Trader Joes, there is one in St. Louis but we don't get over there very often.

    1. Connie, I haven't tried the apple juice/tea combo yet. I think I didn't realize that the chocolate cookies were a bitter dark chocolate.

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
