Saying Goodbye to 2018

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
I'm not a champagne kind of girl. It's sparkling apple juice for me!

New Year's Eve is a special day to reminisce not only of the passing year but of past New Year's Eves as well.

When the children were young, every New Year's Eve, they would make a list of what they remembered best that year.  You can imagine what little children might say!  I've saved every year's list and I love to look back on them.

Prepping for the New Year

Let's start in the kitchen!

It has been a few years since I cooked black eyed peas on New Year's Day. When the children were little, I made this every year. I'm not sure why I stopped. This meal is tasty, simple to make, and very nutritious.

Today's holiday meal prep was grocery shopping.  With my list in hand, I went to Walmart and Harris Teeter.  I also picked up a few items to make munchies for New Years Eve.

Speaking of Hot Chocolate...

Hot chocolate is like a hug from the inside. ~Violet Sueno

Who doesn't need a hug from the inside?  I certainly do!

My topping of choice is usually whipped cream but I will make an exception with a marshmallow this cute!

I ordered these adorable marshmallow snowmen from Williams Sonoma. They were a bit pricey but sometimes you need to pay a little more around the holidays.

Do you have a hot chocolate topping of choice? Whipped cream, marshmallows, cool whip, or something else?

When Good To The Last Drop Is Gone...

not forever ~ but gone until next fall...

Thinking back, I should have bought more than one canisters of Trader Joe's Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa.  I hope I remember next fall when Trader Joe's carries it again.

Do you have a favorite Hot Cocoa?

Twas Two Nights After Christmas...

Twas two nights after Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
Leftovers were eaten without any care,
Paper plates so no dishes to wash here or there.

Okay, not the best poem but appropriate for today's post.  It's all about the paper products, ladies!

Who wants to do countless dishes over the holidays?  I'm looking and I don't see anyone's hands up.  My hand certainly isn't!

I love holiday paper goods but I don't love paying full price for them!  I buy them on sale or better yet after the holiday and then save them for the following year.

My all time favorite places to buy holiday paper goods is craft stores.  Joann's is the best and then Michael's.  Hobby Lobby probably is good but I rarely get over there.

In my last post, I shared these dinner plate size ones - Susan Winget designed these.  I also have matching napkins.  I do love all things woodland!

Today, I wanted to share some different Christmas paper goods that I am also using.  These are dessert size plates and napkins.

Although I bought these last year, they are certain current this year as well. I've seen the red truck with a Christmas tree in the back practically everywhere.

Though these plates are very festive and pretty, they aren't terribly sturdy.  If you are having "heavy" food (you know what I mean!), you may want to go with a Dixie thickness plate.  Or you could just start small (light) and get LOTS of helpings of delicious food!  Hey, that's not a bad idea after all!

So holiday paper goods or fine china?
Which do you prefer to use around the holidays?

Merry Christmas Brunch

Once in royal David's city,
Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her baby
In a manger for His bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little child.

Merry Christmas!

Good morning, dear ladies. How are you? I pray that you are enjoying this fine Christmas morning.

This year, we opted to stay home for Christmas. We did enjoy FaceTime with the children and grandchildren this morning. We hope to visit them soon. ♥

A Christmas Cupcake, Coffee, and a Chat

Friends are like sprinkles on the cupcake of life. ~Author unknown

Yesterday, I met my sweet friend Bonnie for a Christmas cupcake, coffee, and a chat. We met at my favorite little bakery.

I just had to take a photograph of this darling gingerbread man/reindeer.  You can see Bonnie in the background.

Once inside, it was difficult to decide which cupcake to choose.

A Holiday Basket

We are foregoing a Christmas tree this year and instead are enjoying festive greenery in this basket.  You can see one sweet snowman peeking out.  The other snowmen are hiding.

Have you decorated your Christmas tree?  Do you have a favorite ornament?

A Wintry Awakening

This morning, I've been blessed with a wintry awakening,  The snow continues to fall,  And though the temperatures are cold outside, I have a warm cozy feeling inside.  Remember.  Remember God's promises.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

All the changes taking place have a purpose.  When my eyes are on the Lord, I look forward to the new adventures that await us.

Though I do love living in North Carolina, I have missed some aspects of living in the Northeast.

*The changes in the seasons are more distinct.  My husband especially has missed all the snow.  I have missed bundling up in sweaters and a coat.

Let's Put A Bandaid On It!

When the children had on scrape or cut on their knee, they always seemed to feel better when we put a bandaid on it!  I think I'm going to need a really big bandaid.

Not for my husband.  He's actually doing well.  He is in good spirits and we are formulating a plan (moving etc)

Me, not so much...  Did I mention that Sunday morning, my husband insisted we go to Urgent Care because my cough was just so much worse. Off we went to the next county to the Urgent Care.  The doctor said that it was a bad case of bronchitis and prescribed antibiotics.

December Beginnings - Prayer Requests

Though I have been home since Tuesday, I have not been able to post as much has been going on.

Thanksgiving was delightful and tiring all at once.  Everyone was sick.  Everyone but my son-in-law and me were on either oral steroids and/or antibiotics.

I prayed that God would keep me well until I arrived home so I could be of help to my daughter.  God listened to my prayers and though I began feeling sick over Thanksgiving weekend, this virus really hit me hard the day I arrived home.  Since then, I have been coughing etc almost nonstop. And I did get my flu shot a few months ago.  Still, I cannot complain because I was able to help with the sick grandchildren when I was there.
