I Have Tried. I Really Have...

The new season of Victoria has begun on PBS.  And I have tried, I really have to like Albert.  But I cannot.

It is now season 3 and I have given Albert plenty of chances to grow up and act like a man but I think he has fallen short. He acts so much like a spoiled child (in my opinion).

How Victoria's life would have been different had she married Lord Melbourne (as I hoped)! Lord Melbourne was selfless, kind, wise, and handsome. And he truly loved Victoria and she him.

I think he would have made a much better husband and king to Victoria's queen.  I think Jenna Coleman (Victoria) and Rufus Sewell (Lord Melbourne) had such an electrifying chemistry. Whereas, in my opinion again, she doesn't have anything close to chemistry with Tom Hughes (Albert).

In my scenario, Lord Melbourne would not have died such an early death. He and Victoria would live happily after with tons of children and no British rebellion/revolution. And Victoria's creepy half sister would have been kicked to the curb ten minutes after she arrived by Lord Melbourne himself. And speaking of creepy relatives, Victoria's mother would have been booted long before she finally left. Yikes!

Are you watching the new season of Victoria on PBS?

  1. Tell us how you really feel Gina.lol I like Albert and I read that he and Jenna Coleman are a couple in real life. I guess I could never warm to Lord M because he played the despicable Jasper in The Holiday.:) I was glad to see Victoria return and I am working on a Cross stitch piece that is all about her. I will try to remember to include it in my Stitching Saturday next week. I also felt very sorry for Ernest, Albert's brother because I wanted him to marry Victoria's lady in waiting. And where is Wilhelmina Cook this season? At the end of last season she was engaged to that young Lord. Did I miss something? I tell myself it is just a tv show but I get attached.

    1. Arlene, I did! :-)

I saw the Holiday years ago and don't remember a Jasper character. Now I want to watch it!! No, you haven't missed anything. I don't think they've said anything about Wilhelmina yet.

    2. Yes, watch the Holiday and see Lord M. He played the guy who was using Kate Winslet but was engaged to someone else.lol He played it perfectly. I miss Wilhelmina...she was such a sweet girl.

    3. Arlene, I will have to work up the courage to watch again. I fear it might taint Lord M's memory for me.

  2. I almost missed the new season as our cable company switched to a different system and I lost all the programs that I have scheduled in the DVR's! I do like Albert but he is portraying the way young men of royalty acted back then. Lord Melbourne was older and wiser and who knows why his wife left him??She did leave him right or am I remembering it wrong? I do love this series as I watched Jenna Coleman in Dr. Who and loved her in that! Thanks for doing this post!! I did a post about blogging ad my disenchantment with blogging and the comments on that post were amazing and seem to reflect that readers want to read "Real" Blogs! Your post fits right in! Stop by and take a look at the post if you haven't already....

    1. Debbie, oh dear. I'm sorry your programs were lost! I don't think they said why Lord Melbourne's wife broke his heart!! I do enjoy Jenna Coleman.

  3. Hi Gina~

I'm not watching it. I tried to watch it once and just couldn't get interested. You make it sound almost like a soap opera, I might have to watch it!!

    1. Barb, I tried watching the Queen Victoria show on Netflix but I just couldn't get into it. I love the one on PBS though. Much better in my opinion. xo

  4. I'm so glad I came over here! I stopped by to thank you for visiting me at Marmelade Gypsy and leaving a nice comment on my Diana post. But I have to say -- I agree with you COMPLETELY! Albert -- I just don't like him. I'm pretty sure it's the actor, although the real Albert was probably much the same way. I like your scenario much better, to be sure! I'm guessing you probably saw Lucy Worsley's documentary about Victoria after and the wedding? I love her!

Anyway, I have much more of England to come. You may have missed the post on Kensington Palace (with Victoria connections) but if you're interested, all the English/Paris links from this trip are on a menu at the top of the page! Meanwhile, I intend to be back here with your next post -- a new follower!

    1. Hi Jeanie! I'm so glad you stopped by. And now I'm not alone in the anti-Albert club! ♥

Victoria is such a firecracker. I really am enjoying learning more about her. Thank you for following! :-)

  5. I have the season on DVR, and have not started watching this season yet. I am thinking about getting them all on my DVR and then when the season is done, watch one show an evening until I have seen the whole season, that is what I did with Poldark too :) I guess knowing the real history of her and that she loved her husband very much I can put up with him, well as far as the last season anyway, maybe I will change my mind after watching the next season

  6. I am watching Victoria, and in fact just watched the latest episode last night. I did love Lord M, also, but Victoria seems to love Albert. I guess, he's just not my cup of tea!!

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
